51% kan transporteras med lastcykel

51% av all godstransport i tätort, yrkesmässig och privat, kan göras med lastcykel visar en EU-studie. För yrkesmässig godstransport enskilt kan 32% göras med lastcykel.


Så här säger Suzanne Wrighton, koordinator på Cycle Logistics projektet, på ICBF 2014 i Nijmegen.


I think this project has greatly contributed to the boom that CL is seeing. When we started this project 3 years ago, it was a niche market, and now it;s a mainstream activity, on a European scale. This event is the best proof of that.

Every second motorized trip could be shifted to bicycle. Go into numbers details.  

Potential: 25% of all trips in EU cities. 42% of all motorized trips in EU cities. 51% of all motorized private and commercial trips related to goods transport in EU cities.  

Baseline study: Shiftable. About 16% of trips are related to delivery. A quarter of these could be shifted to the bicycle. All trips under 7 km (4.34 miles) that don’t exceed 200 kg (440 pounds). E-commerce is constantly rising.  

Germany: 750 million packages are shipped every year, and 33% of packages are returned. With shoes, almost 50%. And cities are having a hard time dealing with this. And this is where CL comes in.    

Focus area 1: Favorable framework conditions and policies set by city administrations. How? 

  • You can restrict car/truck access. 
  • Promote. In Graz, Austria, fund 50% for businesses to buy cargo bikes or use them for delivery. Plant watering by cargo bike (photo). 

Focus area 2: Awareness of customers for innovative and green delivery options. How? 

  • Packs stations, DHL, Bento box (see K4RGO page)
  • On demand courier services (Myways, Uber)
  • Roam delivery services (Volvo) - most of these services are done by motorized vehicles and people should demand enviro-friendly methods. 
  • Same day delivery platforms (Tiramizoo)
